Kool DJ Red Alert will end his radio run with a four-hour farewell broadcast on 107.5 WBLS on Nov. 30. He announced the date on Nov. 2, marking the close of more than four decades on air.
A radio sign-off, not a retirement from DJing
This is a radio sign-off, not a promise to stop DJing. In his announcement, Red Alert said his passion for music and entertainment remains and that he plans to keep playing special events and community celebrations. Complex and XXL both reported that distinction.
Before the final broadcast, Red Alert is scheduled to host the Red Alert Experience Gala at Sony Hall on Nov. 24. Complex reports the event will mark 50 years of DJing and his 70th birthday, putting a milestone celebration a few days ahead of the radio farewell.
His route through New York radio included long runs at 98.7 KISS-FM in the 1980s, HOT 97 in the 1990s and, later, WBLS. Nov. 30 closes that chapter on air; the events and community celebrations he named remain part of the next one.
