Yung Miami says the “Spend Dat” video was meant to salute LisaRaye McCoy’s best-known role, not take a shot at her. Complex reported October 15 that Miami addressed the criticism on The Morning Hustle the day before, explaining the visual as a nod to Diamond, McCoy’s character in the 1998 film The Players Club.

A film reference behind the video

The back-and-forth started earlier this year: McCoy joined the “Spend Dat” challenge in June, then criticized the finished video during an August episode of her Mama, I Made It! podcast. Miami joked that McCoy did a good job playing Diamond, while pointing to the film as the inspiration for her own visual.

That makes the reference clearer, even if it does not settle the disagreement over how the video landed. McCoy’s part in The Players Club is the connection Miami says she wanted viewers to catch; the official “Spend Dat” video is here.
