redveil came back to the D.C. area with songs about the people who raised him. NPR published his six-song Tiny Desk on July 9, bringing the Prince George’s County rapper and producer home after his move to Los Angeles. Much of the selection comes from sankofa, his late-2025 album.

From sankofa back to niagara

“time (a dream deferred)” opens, followed by “lone star” with Carolyn Malachi. NPR’s Joshua Bryant connects those songs to mortality and redveil’s childhood summers with his grandparents in Texas. “history” brings his Caribbean roots into the set, while “brown sugar” turns toward romance.

Saxophone and trumpet join guitar, bass, drums, keys and three background singers. redveil also plays keys himself, sharing the instrumental work with the ensemble around him.

The final two songs put different generations of his writing together. “campbell” comes from niagara, the album he released in 2020 at 16. “glimpse of you,” which NPR identifies as a letter to his brother, closes. An early breakthrough ends up beside the family concerns running through his more recent work.
