Mac Ayres debuts a Carrtoons co-write at Tiny Desk
“Please Come Home” joins six catalog selections before the closing return to “Easy.”
Mac Ayres introduced “Please Come Home” during his September Tiny Desk. Co-written with Carrtoons, the song was unreleased at the time of the performance, published by NPR on September 3. It joins six other selections from the R&B singer and guitarist.
A new song inside the familiar ones
“Sunny & 62” opens, followed by “Calvin’s Joint,” “Pickled Ginger” and “Comfortable Enough.” The debut arrives next, before “Where U Goin’ Tonight?” and “Easy.” Ayres places the new collaboration deep into the set, between songs listeners could already know.
NPR’s Ashley Pointer describes “Please Come Home” as drawing on 1970s soul, with Josh Porter’s guitar helping establish that sound. Longtime collaborator Declan Miers directs the band and plays bass, alongside keys, drums and two background vocalists.
“Easy” had also closed Ayres’ earlier Tiny Desk home concert. He returns to it here, and Pointer reports the room joining in.
