Skepta brings Suggs and Chase & Status into “Innocent Smile”
Aidan Zamiri directed the London video for the new single from Skepta’s forthcoming The Fork and Knife.
Skepta’s “Innocent Smile” puts Chase & Status and Madness frontman Suggs on the same record. Released through Epic in September, it’s a new single from his forthcoming album The Fork and Knife. Aidan Zamiri directed the official video in London.
A British music connection across generations
The collaboration brings together Skepta’s grime background, Chase & Status’ drum-and-bass and jungle work, and Suggs’ place in Madness. Epic describes the song as moving between rap, electronic production and club influences, within an album drawing on grime, garage, house, jungle and rave.
The video keeps that British connection in view. Zamiri and Skepta use references from the 2000s to build a heightened version of London around the song, according to the release announcement.
Chase & Status have their own album approaching: Generic Everything is scheduled for October 9. Its announced 10-song lineup includes J Hus, Little Simz, Skrillex, Giggs, D Double E and Blanco. Skepta’s The Fork and Knife is still listed as coming soon, with no date in this announcement. “Innocent Smile” is available now.
