Cole Bennett is aiming for a 2027 Chief Keef documentary
The film will follow Keef’s rise and return to Chicago. A release date and distributor are still to be announced.
Cole Bennett is targeting 2027 for his Chief Keef documentary. According2HipHop reports that the Lyrical Lemonade founder discussed the film at ComplexCon, with Keef’s return to Chicago central to its story. Complex’s October 10 follow-up also describes next year as the expected window. There is no announced premiere date or distributor yet.
Chicago is central to the film
The project has been in the works since 2024. REVOLT’s coverage of the original announcement names Lyrical Lemonade and Kenya Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society as the production companies. Its reported synopsis follows Keef’s rise, his decade away from Chicago and his eventual homecoming, while examining how the city shaped both his life and his music.
That gives the film a broader subject than a concert comeback. The original synopsis also places Chicago’s segregated neighborhoods and gang violence alongside Keef’s musical development, with his influence on drill running through the story. Bennett is directing; the new reporting updates the timing of an already announced project.
Keef spoke about that period of change in a May 2024 Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, included below. The conversation covers Almighty So 2, his development since entering music at 16 and his anticipation of playing Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash in Chicago. It is a useful companion to the documentary’s subject, with Keef discussing the return in his own words.
For now, 2027 remains a target. This month’s update comes from the ComplexCon weekend held October 3–4 in Los Angeles; a firm release announcement would still need to supply the date and where viewers can watch.
