On an October 13 episode of The Crew Has It, 50 Cent said J. Cole paid the biggest price for stepping away from the Drake–Kendrick Lamar battle, Complex reported. He framed Cole’s choice as a retreat from hip-hop’s competitive spirit while also praising Cole’s confidence and place in the culture.

A 2024 decision revisited

The decision still comes up because Cole released “7 Minute Drill” in April 2024, then apologized at Dreamville Festival and pulled the song from streaming. 50’s latest assessment is an opinion about how that move looked; it does not establish that Cole suffered a measurable career loss.
